The Capitol Division is pleased to offer a clinic led by Bradley Baker.
Bradley is an active FIE-rated referee in all three weapons and former member of the Fencing Officials Committee.
Time:

The clinic will be held Saturday, October 25, starting at 9:00am and is expected to continue until approximately 5:00pm.
The written test is now offered online and typically taken shortly following the clinic, though it may be taken in advance: https://fencingofficials.org/test/

Practical refereeing exams will be available on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the 2014 Chaos Invitational, an intercollegiate event hosted at the University of Maryland.

- Current referees - who need to fulfill their yearly requirement for seminar attendance or further their personal development.
About the Referee Development Clinic
Attending an official FOC-sanctioned clinic is a prerequisite for attempting the written exam. Once a passing score (90%) has been achieved on the written exam (both the general section and one or more weapon-specific sections) a referee receives a rating of "P" in each weapon passed. Further ratings improvements (1-10) can be obtained at a later date by being evaluated in a practical setting at tournaments.
The Referee Development Clinic will provide you with a broad understanding of the role, responsibilities, and duties of a referee, as well as refine your sense of right of way, timing, and application of the penalties. The Study Guide will prepare you for the written exam. The two together are designed to help prepare you for the demands of refereeing actual fencing bouts.
Saturday Clinic Information
The cost of the clinic is $50/person payable to Bradley Baker and $25/person to the Capitol Division. Checks must be paid at the door. Members of the Capitol Division who take the referee clinic and pass both the written and the practical exam can apply for reimbursement from the Capitol Division.
There will be a working lunch during the clinic. Please feel free to bring food. Additionally, orders may be taken at the site of the clinic for delivery.
Sunday Practical Examination - 2014 Chaos Invitational
Referee candidates must complete a practical examination in a tournament setting and be observed in action before they can receive referee ratings. This year's practical examination will be the "2014 Chaos Invitational," an intercollegiate individual tournament. The tournament is aimed at novice & intermediate fencers representing collegiate club teams in the region.
Referee candidates that commit to the tournament at least one week in advance will be fed lunch on Sunday, along with all other officials, and be paid per-Diem and honorarium in accordance with current USFA pay scale at the rating they earn.
About Bradley Baker
Bradley Baker is an active FIE-rated referee in all three weapons and former member of the Fencing Officials Commission. He is a former Secretary of USA Fencing and coached the fencing team at Temple University 2004-2013. In his copious spare time, he is in his third year of studies towards a PhD in Business Administration, with a concentration in Tourism and Sport.
