What: On Sunday, June 14th, Durkan Fencing Academy will be hosting a one day training Clinic at our location in South Hackensack, NJ. This event a great way for coaches and athletes to learn from some of the nation's most premier coaches to better understand how fencing is taught at the elite level. The clinic will be conducted in foil, epee, and sabre with topics including (but not limited to) basic footwork, advanced footwork, control of distance, the relationships between hand and foot tempos, pre-competition practice, and tactics in pool and DE bouts. COACHING CLINIC PRESENTERS

Sabre - Patrick Durkan

A member of six US National Teams and former World Cup medalist, Patrick Durkan is now the Head Sabre Coach for both the New York Athletic Club and Durkan Fencing Academy. Durkan's students include members of the US National Team, a Cadet World Championship medalist, and a Veteran World Champion, in addition to numerous local, regional, and national medalists. Durkan is also the founder of the Patrick Durkan Fencing Foundation, which sponsors some of US Fencing's most elite athletes with grants towards international competitions.

Epee - Christian Rivera

A former member of the US Junior National Team, two-time World University Games selectee, and two-time NCAA Team National Champion, Christian Rivera serves as the Head Coach for Fairleigh Dickinson University's Women's Fencing Team, a Division-1 collegiate program, and also coaches epee at both the New York Athletic Club and Durkan Fencing Academy. Rivera's students have been selected to the US National Team, earned NCAA All-American honors, and medaled at World Cups and on the US national competition circuit, and captured multiple State Championship titles in New Jersey.

Foil – Daniel Bass

An NCAA Team National Champion and multi-time Divisional and Regional gold medalist, Dan Bass currently serves as the Head Foil Coach of Durkan Fencing Academy and the Assistant Coach for Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Women's Fencing Team, a Division-1 collegiate program. Bass has also served as the foil coach for Stevens Institute of Technology’s Men’s Fencing Program as well as several other nationally-recognized club programs. As a coach, he has helped produce students who have earned medals both nationally and internationally, including most recently a finalist at the Division-1 US National Championships.
