Coach Durkan's Bio:

Maestro Patrick Durkan picked up a sabre at the New York Athletic Club when he was only five-years-old and has been fencing ever since! For the past 30 years he has represented the USA in all levels of fencing, including being a part of the Cadet, Junior, and Senior National Teams.

As a student athlete, Coach Durkan competed at Regis High School in New York City where he won the New Jersey State Championship and at Columbia where he was a four time All-American.

Coach Durkan is dedicated to building a truly American system of fencing using his training in the Hungarian fencing system under Aladar Kogler and his background in the Russian, Polish and Italian systems. He began implementing this specialized fencing system when he became head sabre coach at the New York Athletic Club in 2008, creating a program including sport-specific weight training and nutrition protocols.

He also earned his Maestro (Master's) Degree in Sabre Coaching from the United States Fencing Coaches Association. Coach Durkan offers Coaching Lessons and Clinics throughout the year.

Student Results:

Woman's Sabre - Three students have placed top 8 at senior NAC's and two have placed in the top 8 at senior nationals.

Men's Sabre - Many students have won National Championships at ever level. Students have also won Junior World Cups, Medaled at World Championships, and earned spots on Junior and Cadet National Teams.
