USAFC is hosting a Refereeing Seminar & Practical Exam by the Fencing Master Mark Stasinos, Member of the Fencing Officials Commission (FOC) and Certified Referee Instructor & Examiner in the USFA on Saturday, May 12, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

This clinic is designed to provide the classroom portion of training to prepare students for online training, online testing and tournament evaluation for all three weapons. There will be discussion of wheelchair fencing directing.

Cost: $75 cash or check payable at the door (will be reimbursed upon certification).

Preregistration on askFred by May 10th is required.

This developmental seminar will provide you with a broad understanding of the role, responsibilities, and duties of a referee, as well as refine your sense of right of way, timing, and application of the penalties. Attending an official FOC-sanctioned clinic and passing the online exam is a prerequisite for referee certification.

Who should attend:
Aspiring referees, who want to learn how right of way and rules are being applied at a national and international level
Athletes, who want to improve their games and get a more complete understanding of their sport
Coaches, who want to maintain their grasp of current interpretations and rules updates
Parents, who want a better understanding of tournament format and the basics of sport fencing for their children
Current referees, who need to fulfill their yearly requirement for seminar attendance or further their personal development.

Visit http://www.fencingofficials.org for more information about becoming a referee and for resources such as, the USFA Referee Study Guide, the Fencing Rule Book, and the required Online Written Test.

Contact Bill at home 801-278-3568 or 385-228-2717 (cell/text), or Carli at (801) 618-7962 with any questions.

Utah Fencing Foundation (UFF) will reimburse registrants who go on to become certified referees for this clinic and on-line testing fees when verified to UFF by Mark Stasinos. Maestro Stasinos will wave the observation fee when you referee a sanctioned event and are observed and rated.

UFF will provide Subway sandwiches, chips and sodas for the one-hour lunch break. There will be two 10 minute bathroom breaks. Prepare for the breaks - bring a water bottle.

There may be a very limited number of non-paying attendees by prearrangement, but if you are in the room you should come prepared to pay $75 at the door, and to go on to become a certified referee.

There will be two Utah events on the two weekends following this clinic where potential referees might (if events are sanctioned and at an E level) be observed and get a rating (there will be others in the following season):
