Denise O'Connor Under-20 High School Championships
This under-20 tournament is open to all USFA fencers, who were born in 1991-1997.

Open to all USFA members who meet the age requirements.

A two-time Olympian, (1964, 1976), she fenced in five World Championships (1965, '66, '69, '70, '75), as well as the Pan American Games of 1975(Bronze Medal). She was the winner of the 1971 Terre des Hommes in Montreal. For nearly two decades, she was a nationally ranked women's foilist (1959-1976). She captained the Salle Santelli Women's Foil Team to five national titles. She was also a 3-time chair of the New Jersey Division, coach of Brooklyn College for over a decade at Brooklyn College before becoming Assistant Director of Athletics. In 1975 and '76, she was NIWFA College Coach of the Year. Her students have become champions and successful coaches in their own right.

  • A-rated fencers compete for free
  • B-rated fencers from outside of the New Jersey and the contiguous Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Westchester-Rockland, South Jersey and Metropolitan NYC divisions fence for free.
  • For every fencing club or school who registers 10 competitors, 1 fencer will compete for free. Therefore, please set-up your school or club as your 'secondary club' in your fencer record in FRED.

    Registration and Entry Fees:
    Walk-in registration fee: $10 per fencer
    Walk-in entry fee: $70 per event

    Online registration is closed. Walk-in registrations accepted at rates above.

    One-Day USFA Memberhip:
    Beginning this season, the USFA has created a single-day membership for only $10 per tournament. If you want to use this option, you must join online at least a week before the event. Unfortunately, you cannot join at the door using this option. Go to: https://www.railstation.org/usfencing/MembershipRegistration.aspx
    You will still be able to join for the entire season($60) at the door. Make your checks payable to the 'USFA.'

    Format and Sanctioning:
    The tournament is sanctioned by the New Jersey Division of the US Fencing Association. The format for each event consists of a round of pools followed by a direct elimination round. 100% of the fencers are promoted from pools to the direct elimination round. There is no fence-off for third place. Medals will be awarded for 1st through 8th place for each event.

    All fencers are required to comply with the USFA standards for uniforms and equipment. Each fencer should bring at least two functional weapons and body cords that meet USFA requirements. There are no exceptions to the attire and equipment rules. You must have a current USFA membership or join the USFA at the event. You must show your USFA card or have proof that payment has been made.

    NJFA is a state-of-the-art salle d'armes offering grounded metal strips with center scoring boxes with repeater lights at each end, free wireless internet service, free parking, and on-site fencing store.
