An opportunity for beginners ages 8-13 from RFC Homeschool, Afterschool (French Road, Seton, St. Joseph's, Mercy, Siena) and Recreation Center Programs (Perinton, Victor, Brighton, Henrietta, Pittsford, Webster, Irondequoit) to experience electric fencing on regulation strips and learn how a tournament runs. Seven year-olds are welcome to participate with coach's invitation. Fencers will be guided through the entire process. Parents are encouraged to stay and watch.

Take your fencing to the next level by attending this special instructional event with co-owner and Olympian Iris Zimmermann, RFC Coach Christine Griffith, and RFC teen competitive fencers serving as referees and assistants.

Young fencers and parents will learn the ins and outs of how a fencing tournament runs. All equipment is provided. Learn how to suit up for electric fencing, how to adequately warm-up, how to hook up to the strip, fence in 5-touch pools and a DE (direct elimination) round. Referees will explain the actions and scoring. Emphasis will be on fun and learning. Certificates will be awarded to all participants.

Fencers must wear long pants (sweatpants, track pants, or stretchy pants), a short-sleeved shirt, long socks, and sneakers. Please bring a water bottle and a snack.

Registration is limited to the first twenty-five kids who register with saber limited to ten participants. Fencers should register for ONLY one weapon: either foil (points scored by hitting tip in the target area of torso) or saber (points scored by slashing with side of blade and hitting anything above the waist including head & arms) If the maximum number of 25 fencers has been met, please contact the organizers to be put on a waiting list. We will notify you of any cancellations.
