Flagstaff Epee Event June 2019 Jun 1, 2019
Let's do some more high-altitude fencing!
Flagstaff Family YMCA: FLAGSTAFF, AZ
posted 11/01/2018
More Info
Flagstaff in June! What could be better? We had so much fun last year that we are doing tournaments at both the beginning and end of summer this year.

Please join us for a day of fencing and enjoy our beautiful mountain town in the pine forest. Temperatures are likely to be 25-30 degrees cooler than in Phoenix.

Venue:

Flagstaff Family YMCA
1001 N Turquoise Drive
Flagstaff, AZ 86001

The tournament will be held in the YMCA's gymnasium, a very good facility with a wood floor. The locker rooms and showers at the YMCA are available for use by all participants.

Tournament Registration Fee: $25 if preregistered, $35 if not preregistered.

Event Fees:

First event: fee included in registration fee
Each additional event: $10

Payment is accepted by cash or check only. Credit cards cannot be accepted.

Fencers must show proof of a USFA competitive membership for the 2018 - 2019 season in the form of a current USFA membership card or other proof of registration from the USFA website. Membership application/renewal forms will be available at the venue. If no proof of membership is presented, and the membership cannot be otherwise verified, the fencer will be required to fill out a new registration form and submit payment (which will be refunded or cancelled as soon as membership is verified with the USFA national office). International fencers are welcome upon presentation of a copy of an FIE License or a proof of current membership in another national federation (please bring one of these items with you).

Events Scheduled and Close of Registration:

Open Epee - 9:30 AM
E and Under Epee - 12:30 PM

E and Under Epee will start as soon as practicable after close of registration and after none of the competitors are still competing in the Open Epee event, unless otherwise determined by the organizers.

USA Fencing has given the Arizona Division permission to experiment with the large pool format, fenced on multiple strips. This format will be used only for the E and Under event. Pool size will be a minimum of twelve, with only the top eight finishers overall being promoted to the DE. This format was successfully used in the Grand Canyon State Games in March. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the organizers reserve the right to use the traditional pool and DE format for this event if the number of competitors makes the large pool format impracticable.

Registration and check-in will open approximately one hour before close of registration for each event. Events with fewer than six fencers preregistered may be cancelled at the organizers' discretion. The event format for the individual events will be one round of pools with 100% promotion to a direct elimination table.

In consideration of the fencers traveling long distances, registration will close promptly at the times listed. Please plan to be at the venue at least 30 minutes before the close of registration for your event.

Please ensure that your mask complies with the requirements for retention devices. Fencing knickers are required for all events: competitors may not fence in jeans, shorts, sweatpants, or warm-up pants.

Events may be wholly or partly self-directed by participants.

All participants must have been born in 2006 or earlier, unless on the National Junior Point Standings as provided by the current USFA Athlete Handbook.

Please call Charlie King at (602) 576-6055 with any questions, or use the "Email the Organizer" link above.

Preregistration closes at 9:00 PM on May 31.
