The KERN ATHLETIC FENCING FOUNDATION presents the
BAKERSFIELD “C and Under” FOIL TOURNAMENT
Sunday, May 23rd, 2021

VENUE: Kern Athletic Fencing Foundation (KAFF) studio located upstairs at The Woman’s Club of Bakersfield. (Historic 2-story building, no elevator, stair access only.)
2030 18th Street, 2nd Floor, Bakersfield, CA 93301
Parking is available on street and in parking lot adjacent to north of venue. Restrooms are available, and the venue has ample ventilation / air conditioning.

REGISTRATION: $35 with paid pre-registration on AskFred.net by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021. Tournament is limited to 21 fencers. Please contact us if you are interested in late registration. Current USA Fencing competitive membership required and fencers must be born in 2007 or earlier.

PROOF OF USA FENCING MEMBERSHIP AND AGE: USA Fencing requires a current membership, which we will request proof of at the time of check-in. You may present a current card, or an image on your phone or an e-mail receipt.

NOTE: COVID-19 Protocols will be implemented throughout the whole tournament, compliant with the guidance given by Kern County Health Department. Temperature checks will be taken before anyone enters the building.

FORMAT: There will be one round of pools (flighted) with 100% promotion to direct elimination, and no fence-off for 3rd place. Medals will be awarded to top 4 fencers on the strip after the semi and final rounds. As a sanctioned tournament, USA Fencing ratings may be earned. The schedule and flow will be as follows:
Pools of up to 7 fencers each will be flighted to each run at pre-assigned time on two strips, each with a referee. Participants will be informed of their starting time the day before the tournament. Please provide a cell phone number for texting confirmed start times. Participants that fail to appear on time will be consider a forfeiture.
Pools 1 & 2, start at 9:30 a.m.
Pool 3, starts at 10:30 a.m.

Direct Elimination Rounds (DE’s) start 15 minutes after the last pool bout finishes. There will be a designated and controlled entry point into the building (WEST entrance) where check-in will take place. Fencers can arrive 30 minutes prior to their start time and will be directed to an upstairs staging room from where they will be called to fence in the fencing room. They will take all their belongings with them into the fencing room. Upon finishing their pools, again, they will take all their belongings and exit through the EAST stairs. Participants will have to wait outside of the building while the remaining pools are being fenced. DE’s will start 15 minutes after the last pool bout finishes on two strips at the same time.

SPECTATORS: Due to the size of venue and occupancy limits, there will be limited spectators allowed during pool rounds. Again, all will be entering through the west door and exiting through the east stairs. All persons in the fencing or staging room must wear a mask and maintain social distance.

FENCERS: Fencers are not allowed to touch the scoring machine, weights, shims, remote or scoresheet. Fencers are not required to sign the score sheet or DE slips. Fencers are to refrain from shaking hands after bouts. Fencers are to refrain from shouting after scoring a touch.

LIVE RESULTS: Results will be posted in the venue and outside at check-in table. Live results may be available at http://www.FencingTimeLive.com.

EQUIPMENT: Full fencing uniform is required: jacket, under-arm protector, fencing knickers, socks covering legs below the knickers, shoes with non-marking soles. Chest protectors, if worn, must be padded and bear the FIE mark. Mask & glove will be checked by the bout committee. Weapons will be checked on strip. There will be no armory services at this event. Please bring equipment in working order.

FOOD: No food will be sold. Please bring your own snacks and water. Only water will be allowed in the fencing room. (Bottled water will be available for purchase for $1). A convenience store is nearby.
