UPDATE 11/10/2021: All fencers and visitors must be fully Vaccinated and complete a online health survey before coming to campus. The online survey is to be completed the day of the tournament.

SoCAL Division 2021-2022 JO Qualifiers


THIS IS FOR FENCERS THAT HAVE CHOSEN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AS THEIR DIVISION UNDER THIER USFA MEMBERSHIP. Please make sure USFA has this on file by Dec 16th, 2021.

We will not allow fencers to participate if their membership does not show Southern California as their division on the USFA website.

The Southern California Division Junior Olympic Qualifiers are only open to members of the Socal Division. Fencers must also be registered as representing the USA and have either a passport, green card or permanent resident card. Fencers cannot have represented another country internationally in the last 3 years for Junior FIE tournaments.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

Everyone inside the venue must wear a facial mask that covers the nose and the mouth.

Temperature check will be administered upon entry of venue and an armband will be issued.

Everyone (fencers, coaches, spectators, and staff) must show proof of full vaccination for Covid.

If you cannot comply, please petition to USFA to qualify for Junior Olympics.

Waiver fees will be considered on a case by case basis. These are for fencers who have financial hardships. They will be required to help setup or take down equipment for the tournament to be considered waiver-eligible. Please contact jbeihold@gmail.com for consideration. First 8 fencers to sign up to setup or take down equipment will have registration fees waived. The set up volunteers will need to help set up at 7am.


Ratings changes on AskFRED are NOT official. Only ratings listed on the USA Fencing website will be acknowledged.

Please Note: Only Rubber-soled shoes are allowed in the gymnasium. PLEASE respect the venue!

There will be at least 8 grounded strips to accommodate the entries.

USFA now requires the use of 800N Saber Gloves. Please ensure that all Saber fencers are now equipped with these gloves at this tournament otherwise you will not be able to fence. Also any foil fencers using chest protectors must have the additional padding. Referees will be checking this on strip.

Upon check in - please bring your USFA Competitive Membership card showing expiration date AND Proof of US Citizenship (Such as copy of birth certificate or non-expired passport) or Permanent Residency.


Fees: To be paid at the tournament

$35 per event.

ONLY CASH AND CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE DOOR.

Qualifying and Eligibilty Criteria

Fencers who qualify for junior, if age eligible, are auto qualified for cadet events. If you registered for both junior and cadet, then qualify at the junior event, thereby also qualifying for cadet, but decide on tournament day not to fence the cadet event, you will not receive a refund for the cadet entry fee.

For complete qualifying and appeal information, please refer to the Athlete Handbook which can be downloaded from the USFA website.

Fence offs to break ties will only be done if needed. 100% promotion, however if necessary due to tournament circumstances, only 80% may be promoted. Genders will not be combined.

Ratings used will be those from the USA Fencing website as of Thursday December 16th, 2021. Any ratings earned after that or not reported to the national office will not be used. Seeding will be posted on the Friday prior to the event. Please check your seeding and email me, ffencer@hotmail.com, with any corrections or changes. We have a lot of events to run in one day, so it is best to have corrections made prior to Thursday, December 16th, 2021. Rating changes on AskFRED are not official.

USFA Membership - USFA rules will be enforced. All fencers must be current members of the USFA . Proof of USFA membership is either an unexpired membership card, an email from the USFA or listing on the USFA website. Membership forms will be available at the tournament or may be downloaded from the USFA website however USFA is charging $10 extra for paper entry forms. To speed up the process, it will be better to renew membership online at usfencing.org. If proof of membership is unavailable fencers will be required to submit a new membership application form with payment at the door. No exceptions.

Weapons are checked (weights and shims) during pools and direct eliminations for all events.

This season's Junior Olympics will be held in Salt Lake City, UT February 18-21, 2022
